Dragons Play Well
Friday, February 20th
URI - 5, Drexel - 3
Facing another top 10 ranked ACHA team,
Drexel played well, and came up short Friday evening. URI opened
the scoring at the 4:49 mark of the first period after dodging a
frenzied Drexel offensive effort. The Dragons tied the game as
Andrew Surawiec rammed home a rebound off the stick of Alex Cohen.
Cohen again figured in the scoring as he found Andrew Lawrie all
alone on the right side of the net giving DU a 2-1 first period
lead.
The lead was short lived. URI tied the game less than four minutes
into the second. Cohen (Allatt) again gave Drexel the lead at the
one minute mark of the third period. URI scored the next two before
Zak Blazic (Lawrie, Cohen) sorted through the garbage in front to
bring Drexel to within one. And that was the Dragon’s last blast of
fire. URI hung on and added an empty netter to win.
Saturday, February 21st
URI
- 4, Drexel - 2
Drexel defended a 2-0 lead for more than 52 minutes of the 60 minute
game. Unfortunately for the Dragons, the final score also reflects
the four power play goals URI scored. Drexel got even strength
scores from Alex Cohen (Surawiec, Blazic) and Andrew Lawrie (Cohen)
and was able to keep URI off the scoreboard during the even strength
play. Penalties again were the Dragon’s undoing as a fine effort
was scored as a defeat.
Playing well, and somewhat healthier, the Dragons enter next weekend’s ESCHL playoffs feeling good about their fine effort vs. URI.
