JANUARY 23rd & 24th
Wake Me, Shake Me When It’s Over!
Drexel vs. West Chester University
Friday, January 23rd & Saturday, January
24th
Little did Motown’s Four Tops know the
title of their mega hit would describe Drexel’s lament last weekend
against West Chester. The Dragons were drubbed, losing 8-2 Friday
night at West Chester and 12-4 at home on Saturday.
Friday, January 23rd
Friday night the
Dragons were doomed early as West Chester exploded for 5 first
period goals. It seemed Drexel could do nothing right and WC could
do nothing wrong. On the bright side, the Dragons played strong the
rest of the game, holding the Golden Rams to 3 goals while scoring
two. Matt Mansur (Cohen, Blazic) and Alex Cohen, unassisted, scoring
for Drexel.
Saturday, January 24th
Saturday’s game
started well with West Chester and Drexel trading two goals each. WC
jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first as goalie Dan Pyne was
screened as WC threaded a bullet from the right point. Bruno
Petrillo (Zoldy) tied the game at the 5:50 mark. WC tallied a power
play goal 5 minutes later to take the lead. Mansur (Cohen, Lawrie)
scored his second goal in two nights to re-tie the game. And then
the nightmare! WC scored three more times before the end of the
period.
In the second and third periods, the Golden Rams played Midas and
converted 7 more scores including a penalty shot. On the bright
side, Drexel had a spirited fore check, got off 59 shots, played
physical, and the Cohen, Mansur, Blazic line scored two more goals
giving them 4 for the weekend. Cohen (Mansur) scored in the second,
and Blazic (Cohen) on a power play in the third.
The challenge continues this weekend as Drexel takes on Stony Brook
and Pitt, two more top 25 teams.
