Delaware Takes Rematch
Drexel vs. Delaware
Friday, January 15th & Saturday, January
17th
Thursday, January 15
The Drexel Dragons greeted #4 nationally
ranked Delaware with an intense fore check Thursday
evening and finished with two goals by PJ Armstrong to
earn a well deserved tie with Delaware. Delaware
prevailed in OT on a one-minded bouncing puck which led
to the winning breakaway goal.
Drexel scored early and late. An intense fore check led
to a Delaware turnover in the slot where Luigi Tirro
(Anthony Frattora’s) wrister found net to give Drexel a
1-0 lead. Continuing with an aggressive fore check the
score remained the same up until 7:15 left in the second
period. With Jake Davis off for hooking, Delaware tied
the game with a power play goal.
In the third, Delaware’s early goal was answered by Alex
Cohen (Buklarewicz) who drove the right side and fired a
shot over the right shoulder of Delaware’s goalie.
Delaware came right back with two goals seemingly
putting the game out of reach. However PJ Armstrong,
giving up size and weight to Delaware, scored twice. The
first goal came at 16:56 mark (Lawrie, Tirro), the tying
tally (Buklarewicz) with just 46 seconds in regulation
earning Drexel a well deserved point in the tough ESCHL.
Saturday, January 17
Feeling the sting of Thursday’s tie, Delaware defeated
Drexel 3-0 in the rematch on the Blue Hen’s campus.
Delaware kept play bottled in Drexel’s zone for much of
the game and polished some of the tarnish on their #4
ranking from Thursday’s tie.
