Pyne Stops Penn
State at Happy Valley
Friday, November 7th
Freshman goalie Dan Pyne was the first star Friday night as Drexel defeated Penn State 3-2 in State College. This was the first time that Drexel has defeated perennial power house Penn State. Ranked #3 nationally, Penn State could muster only two goals as Pyne stopped the other 64 shots on goal.
Except for the score, Penn State dominated the game with most of the play in the Drexel zone. After a scoreless first period, Armstrong with help from Lawrie gave Drexel a 1-0 lead at 5:05 in the second. Penn State tied the game with a power play goal at the 12:07 mark. Penn State took a brief lead at the 16:05 mark as Penn State scored a short-handed goal when Pyne took a tumble behind the net leaving Penn State with an uncontested goal. The lead was short lived. Zak Blazic with a feed from Armstrong tied the game 1:13 minutes later. The number two star, PJ Armstrong, teamed up again with Andrew Lawrie to score the winning goal with 26 seconds remaining in the game to silence the sell-out crowd. But the biggest story of the win was Dan Pyne whose play kept Penn State off the scoreboard for the last 24 minutes of the game.
