Friday, October 31st
Freshman goalie Dan Pyne’s
three, point blank saves in the 16th and 17th
minutes Friday night scuttled a Navy comeback as the Dragons hung on
to win 5-3. Pyne stopped 38 Navy shots and kept Navy all-star, Matt
Swezey, off the scoring sheet. After spotting Navy an early first
period goal, Drexel scored four unanswered goals to lead 4-1 at the
five minute mark of the second period.
Kyle Zoldy (Jake Davis, Kevin Thren), opened the scoring for Drexel.
Zoldy was followed by goals from Alex Cohen (Tom Buklarewicz, Bruno
Petrillo), Adrian Allatt (Andrew Lawrie, Tom Buklarewicz), and Bruno
Petrillo (PJ Armstrong, Zak Blazic). Then Navy erupted. Navy out
shot Drexel 16 to 6 in the second period, scoring twice, and taking
control of the game.
Only Pyne’s strong play kept Drexel in the lead. In the third
period, Drexel found its legs and slowed Navy’s attack though being
out shot 14 to 8. Cohen’s second goal at 2:42 (Armstrong, Allatt)
gave Drexel a two goal cushion and Pyne did the rest as Drexel
notched its first points in ESCHL play.
